Channels 1 through 6 have Neutrik XLR connectors for mic level signals, and 1/4″ TRS inputs for balanced or unbalanced line level signals. Channels 7 and 8 also have Neutrik XLRs, but feature Class A FET Hi-Z instrument-level inputs for direct connection of electric guitars and basses. Additionally, channels 1 through 8 are all equipped with 3-band EQ and 48V phantom power.
The mixer also features two stereo inputs (ST1 & ST2) that have 1/4″ TS and RCA jacks (ST1 only) for connecting line level outputs from devices such as keyboards, samplers or iPods. Each of the stereo channels features a 2-band EQ. All 10 channels can be routed to a “record” buss that can be output to a computer running DAW software via the USB port, or routed into a hardware recording device via the RCA record out jacks. Each channel also features a “listen” button, that when engaged takes the corresponding signal off the master and recording busses and sends it to the headphone buss. This can be useful in a live recording scenario for making discrete EQ adjustments to a channel before adding it to the master or record busses.
Designed with versatility in mind, the ZED60-14FX’s master section is equipped with balanced XLR left and right main outputs with 1/4″ inserts on each channel. These inserts can be useful for inserting outboard gear such as EQs or limiters at the end of your signal chain before the master mix is output to your speakers. Also, there is a balanced 1/4″ aux output for connecting additional sound reinforcement components such as a powered stage monitor, and an FX bus out that can be used to send the FX mix to additional gear such as an external effects unit.
While you can connect an external effects unit via the FX bus out jack, the mixer also features sixteen built-in digital effects that include multiple delays, reverbs, a doubler, flanger, and chorus. The DSP engine, which uses the same effects algorithms as Allen & Heath’s flagship digital consoles, is designed for low-noise and low-distortion signal processing.Rugged DesignDesigned with durability in mind for live gigging and recording, the ZED60-14FX uses many of the same exact components used in Allen & Heath’s larger, high-end mixers. The vertically mounted, per-channel circuit boards make servicing much easier should it be required, with the ability to remove one particular channel from the mixer at a timeLow-Noise, High-Gain Microphone Pre-AmpsBased on the pre-amps from the Allen & Heath MixWizard series consoles. Designed to maximize sound quality with high gain, low noise and consistent outputHi-Z Guitar InputsChannels 7 and 8 include high-impedance FET circuits running in Class-A mode for use with low-output electric guitars and basses. Designed to emulate the type of circuits used in valve guitar combos and head amplifiers, the input circuit has a soft overdrive
characteristic, giving a warm 2nd harmonic character to the sound if desiredPer-Channel EQChannels 1-8 are equipped with a 3-band equalizer with sweepable mids and a high-pass filter. This will be my 6th mixer, as the others don’t last. I have used the Behringers, Alesis mixers. They just don’t last and I consider them disposable units. I use them 6-7 days a week in a home studio. This Allen & Heath is so quiet in my headset I can’t believe it. The sound coming out is so clear and clean, all I can say is WOW. I give it a huge thumbs up!!! It all comes down to how it sounds. I will never go back to the cheap mixers. I can take my headset off with a mic on and no feed back. Love this piece of equipment. *****Nice Compact UnitBy blackemmonsRated 4 out of 5Date: 2016-02-17This unit replaces a old and very large Yamaha EM300B in my mancave. It runs six mics, computer and stereo out to four Bose 802 speakers via a Peavey power amp.Being old and a novice at this there was a little confusion for me on connectors need. I was use to using TS connectors for outputs and having control with right and left sliders. The main outputs on this unit are XLR and there is only one slide for the mains. Only one slider for monitors also. May not be a big deal. Getting the USB connected was also not self explanatory to me. The manual leaves something to be desired for a person like me.I was lucky enough to hook up with Bruno at GLB Productions @/about for help. He is in Singapore but emailing back and forth got me through any crisis I had.High quality compact mixer packed with featuresBy BrockRated 5 out of 5Date: 2016-01-07This is my first Allen & Heath purchase, after years of owning several other brands of compact mixers. I just wanted something a little different this time, and I’m very impressed so far. It sounds great and is well built. I don’t use the outdated USB 1.1 interface that is built in because it’s only 16-bit, so I won’t be able to comment on that. However, the Record bus feature is still very useful since it has analog outputs as well. I just send those outputs to my external 24-bit interface, and having the Record button on each channel is handy to send things there. This functionality is similar to Mackie’s ALT 3/4 bus, which I had grown to rely on. The monitor routing section is well thought out and easy to navigate. It’s easy to set up a different source in the headphones compared to the main outs, if that is important to you for live performance. The mic pres are great and have plenty of gain without a lot of noise. The two channels with High Impedence inputs are convenient if you’re using this in a small home studio and want to plug a guitar in direct. I wish the Hi-Z switches were on the front panel though, instead of recessed on the back, which makes them hard to get to if you plan on changing your setup often. The built-in effects are just an extra for me, that really didn’t figure into my purchasing decision. I have outboard FX that I use more often, but I could see the built-in FX being convenient for live use. My choice came down to the Zed14 or this, and ultimately I chose the Zed60-14fx because of the smaller form factor. It fit better on the desk in my small home studio, as the Zed14 is much longer. The smaller channel strips mean that the knobs are very close together, so if you have Hulk-sized hands you might look elsewhere. My overall impression is that this is a nice change from my old Mackie mixers, which were maybe a bit sterile sounding compared to the Allen & Heath stuff which adds a very subtle but pleasant character to mixes, especially if you use the nice sweepable-mid EQ.See any errors on this page?
