The gray CMC 6 Ug Microphone Amplifier Mono Set from Schoepsconsists of the CMC 6 Ug Analog Microphone Amplifier, MK 8 Microphone Capsule, SG 20 Stand Clamp with Swivel, and B 5 Solid Foam Popscreen. The CMC 6 Ug Amplifier is designed for standard 48 and 12V phantom powering. Its circuitry recognizes the supply voltage and adjusts itself automatically. Its performance characteristics remain essentially the same either way. The main difference is that the current drawn at 12V is greater than that drawn at 48V. However, the 12V mode consumes less power and might be preferred for battery-powered recording. The microphone amplifier provides electrostatic charge, which the capsule requires in order to produce a signal. Since only a miniscule amount of current is contained in this signal, amplification of the current is required. To avoid interference to the signal on the way from the microphone to the input of the mixer or preamp, the signal is conveyed at low impedance and in a balanced form. The CMC 6 Ug Amplifier offers a symmetrical, transformerless, direct-coupled Class A output stage with low impedance, distortion, and interference. The SG 20 Stand Clamp can support a microphone with a diameter of up to 0.8″ (21mm). The base of this mount has a 5/8″-27 NS internal thread. A threaded adapter is supplied for 3/8″ and 1/2″ mounting. The angle can be varied continuously in the vertical plane. The MK 8 Microphone Capsule is a true dipole (bidirectional) transducer operating with a single diaphragm. Its main axis is at a right angle to the capsule, and is marked at 0¡ã and 180¡ã with red and black dots respectively. When M/S stereo recordings are made, the 0¡ã axis normally faces to the left as viewed from behind the microphone setup. The ‘8’ engraved on the top of the housing should be aligned on its side so as to appear horizontal at a precise right angle to the Mid capsule. The microphone should be placed directly above or beneath the M channel microphone and as close to it as possible. The inherent qualities of a pure pressure-gradient transducer are readily observed in this capsule type. Its sensitivity decreases at low frequencies, its directional characteristic is independent of frequency, and proximity effect is present. The sound quality of the MK 8 Microphone Capsule is clear and neutral. The frequency response rolls off above 16 kHz. The B5 Solid Foam Popscreen provides sufficient protection at normal speaking distances with minimal effect on sound quality for cardioids and other directional capsules, especially when speech capsules are used. With omni-directional capsules, it may even be used outdoors in light wind.Flat frequency responseLow noise and distortionBalanced, very low-impedance outputCan be used with very long cablesWell-protected against RFIFor use with 12 or 48V phantom powering
