Unveiled: DJI Phantom 3 Standard

The latest addition to DJI¡¯s Phantom 3 line of UAVs is the red-striped Phantom 3 Standard. Priced below the Phantom 3 Professional and Phantom 3 Advanced, the Phantom 3 Standard still offers many features to its users. For photographers and videographers, its built-in 3-axis gimbal stabilized camera can take 12MP stills and capture smooth video in resolutions up to 2.7K at 30 fps with bit rates of 40 Mbps.

Intelligent flight modes for executing maneuvers previously restricted to UAV¡¯s with higher-end hardware include Follow Me, Waypoint Navigation, and Point of Interest. Follow Me mode trains the aircraft to automatically follow its controller. Waypoint Navigation mode allows the pilot to set up a custom route for the Phantom to fly while the pilot controls the camera. With Point of Interest mode the pilot can achieve cinematic shots by choosing a point on the map for the Phantom to circle, while the camera stays centered on the selected point. On a full charge the Phantom 3 Standard will operate for up to 25 minutes and real-time battery info is sent back to your mobile device so you know how much flight time is left.

The Phantom 3 Standard is ready-to-fly and includes a specially designed transmitter. Operating over 5.8 GHz with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi from the video downlink, the transmitter can control the Phantom 3 Standard from up to a half a mile (approx. 1 km) thanks to a range extender in the controller. A built-in clamp holds a smartphone which, while running the DJI Go app, will display a 720p HD video feed straight from the Phantom 3 Standard¡¯s camera. Additionally, the app can control the camera, track your flight path, relay flight information, and quickly edit video for sharing immediately.
