Odyssey 7Q+: 4K over HDMI and an Innovative Upgrade Program

Just announced, the Odyssey 7Q+ from Convergent Design has all the features of the previous 7Q recorder, but adds support for UHD/4K recording over HDMI. The 7Q+ maintains all the features and user interactivity that you have come to expect from the Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q units, so switching to a new unit should be a pretty seamless experience, which is exciting news if you are a 7Q owner and want to take advantage of 4K over HMDI by upgrading.
Although the 7Q+ is replacing the 7Q, that doesn¡¯t mean that Convergent Design is abandoning the 7Q and its owners, as the 7Q will still receive firmware updates and remain a viable monitor/field recorder. Although Convergent Design won¡¯t accept a trade-in from the 7Q to the 7Q+, and there is no upgrade path available, if you are interested in upgrading to a new 7Q+ unit from your current Odyssey 7Q, Convergent Design has what it calls an Odyssey Owner Loyalty Program. The program duplicates any of your current record options, from your 7Q to your 7Q+, plus, the warranty on your 7Q will be extended by one year. ?
What this means is that if you purchase a 7Q+ to go along with the 7Q you already own, you end up with two independent units with identical warranties and record licenses, except the 7Q+ also allows you to record UHD (3840 x 2160) up to 30p and DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) up to 24p over HDMI. With two recorders, you can record from two cameras and support the same codec on each unit, or you can sell the original 7Q, without affecting the warranty or recording licenses of either unit. Depending on which record options (licenses) you currently own for your 7Q, this loyalty program could be worth more than the cost of the 7Q+ itself.
